Investigation the paranormal

In preparing to investigate paranormal activity, it is import to understand exactly what evidence we are trying to capture and what tools are used to conduct our experiment. The primary target of most paranormal investigations is a human apparition.

What do we know about human apparitions?

There are three abilities they may have:

Sound

Definition

mechanical vibrations transmitted through an elastic medium, traveling in air at a speed of approximately 1087 ft. (331 m) per second at sea level.

The presence of sound requires energy to create vibrations.

Moving objects

Remember Newton’s First law of Motion- An object at rest will remain at rest and an object in motion will remain in motion unless acted on by an external force. And Newton’s second Law of Motion- The force needed to move an object is equal to the mass times the acceleration.

So Newton’s First law means that a box will sit exactly where it is at useless something outside applies force to the box.

Newton’s second law say the force is a result of mass and the acceleration of the mass…

Force=mass * acceleration

Weigh=mass * gravity

If the apparition has the power to move at all, then Newton’s Third law takes effect… For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. For the spirit to move, it must have physical presence (mass) to keep it from sinking into the earth and also allow lateral movement.

If the apparition has the power to move at all, then Newton’s Third law takes effect… For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. For the spirit to move, it must have physical presence (mass) to keep it from sinking into the earth and also allow lateral movement.

So… Quantum Leap moment… If a spirit can move an object, it has to have mass and energy enough to offset gravity

Physical appearance-

Objects can be seen by the light they emit, or, more often, by the light they reflect. Visual perception is the ability to interpret information and surroundings from the effects of visible light reaching the eye. Therefore, to see an apparition they must either reflect light or emit it.  If the emit it, then they are producing energy.  To reflect light, it they must have mass.

So, what we think we know is:

The human apparition must have mass and use some form of energy to interact with an observer.

If the human apparition has mass or uses energy, with the right tools we should be able to detect it.

What about the Conservation of Energy law we discussed earlier?

Conservation of energy says that the amount of energy and matter remains constant.  In a living person the energy to move an object comes from the bio-chemical reactions from food and air being processed.

Ghost don’t have that, do they?

So where does the energy come from?

This is a highly debated topic. Most answers do not hold up to the Occam’s razor test (the simplest explanation must be the correct one.) There must be an energy source.

There are several theories regarding the source of an apparition’s power:

Visibility

One of the perpetual questions surrounding paranormal is “why some paranormal anomalies can be seen while others can not?” How is it possible for them to turn invisible?

One theory is that paranormal entities are either out of phase, polarized or reflect light outside of the human visibility range. One explanation is that because light waves can be oriented either vertically or horizontally (polarized or filtered like a pair of sunglasses). A second theory is that the reflected light from an apparition is at a portion of the spectrum outside the human spectrum.

Humans can only see a very small area of the light spectrum.

Compared to animals most things are invisible. We use equipment to try to see beyond our range.

Day light floods the Infrared spectrum. That is why we ghost hunt at night…
